EEvery year, more than 300,000 foreign workers come to work in Canada on Temporary Work Permits. To work temporarily in Canada foreign workers should have a work permit. Canadian employers who wish to hire foreign workers grant human resource Canada for a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment Opinion (LMIA). There are some occupations that are exempt from LMIA so the employer doesn’t have to apply for this document with Human Resource Canada. For other categories that require an LMIA once the employer gets an approval from the selected worker can apply for the work visa at either the port of entry or Canadian high commission in the country of his or her residence.
